IELTSbiz vs
IELTS Liz
They are built for two different jobs — one teaches the theory, the other lets you practise it and measures the result. Here is an honest comparison so you can pick the right tool, or run both.
The short answer
This is not really a contest, and any page telling you it is should be distrusted. IELTS Liz is a teaching resource: free written lessons, a large video library and model answers across all four skills, built up over many years by an experienced teacher, and one of the best free ways to understand how the test works. IELTSbiz is a practice engine: unlimited generated passages marked the moment you submit, the trap behind each wrong answer named with the evidence quoted, and an estimated band tracked per reading question type. Learn there, practise here, and the combination beats either alone.
- IELTS Liz wins on free lessons, video teaching and model answers — comfortably.
- IELTSbiz wins on interactive practice, automatic marking and measurement.
- Neither replaces the other; theory plus deliberate practice is the actual answer.
- Both are free to start, and IELTSbiz needs no card.

Two different jobs, one preparation
IELTS Liz has helped millions of candidates with free, well-structured lessons, tips and model answers across all four skills. If your goal is to understand how the test works — the structure of a Task 2 essay, what examiners reward, how to approach each question type — it is one of the best free resources on the web. Its focus is teaching rather than interactive practice, which leaves three things to somebody else:
Nothing marks your attempt
You read the lesson, study the model answer, and apply it on your own. There is no engine to grade unlimited fresh tests and tell you exactly where you went wrong.
The material is fixed
A lesson library, however good, is finite and public. Once you have read the model answers the surprise is gone. IELTSbiz generates a passage nobody has seen every time.
No measurement of your level
Lessons cannot tell you that you are Band 6 on True/False/Not Given but Band 8 on Multiple Choice. That number has to come from your own marked answers.

Why serious test-takers choose IELTSbiz
Practice on something you have never read
Every session is a fresh, Cambridge-difficulty passage. You can drill for hours without meeting a text whose answers you half-remember.
Marked the moment you submit
Reading is graded against the answer key question by question, with the trap named on each wrong answer — no self-checking, no waiting.
A band per question type
Eleven separate estimates rather than a general sense of how reading is going, so study time goes where it changes the score.
Keep the lessons you already trust
Nothing here replaces what IELTS Liz teaches. Read the method there, apply and measure it here.
About IELTSbiz
IELTSbiz is an AI-powered IELTS preparation platform built around one idea: measured progress you can trust. It covers all four papers. Reading and Listening are written fresh rather than drawn from a bank of past papers, and are marked against an answer key — the same answers always produce the same band, so a rise in your score is progress rather than a different marker on a different day. Writing and Speaking are marked criterion by criterion for an estimated band — accurate enough to aim at, and reported as an estimate rather than an examiner’s verdict.
Reading goes deepest, because it is where most candidates quietly lose marks. Every wrong answer is labelled with the trap that caused it — Partial Truth, Extreme Language, Opposite Meaning, Outside Text, Distractor Word or Temporal Confusion — and shown beside the line of the passage that settles it. Your estimated band is then tracked separately for each of the 11 reading question types, so “reading is my weak skill” becomes “Matching Headings is my weak type”. When you want the whole paper, there is a full 40-question Reading test under a 60-minute clock, and a guided four-skill mock.
That measurement focus runs through everything we build. Our AI grading was validated in a study of 1,200 Writing Task 2 essays against certified examiners, and every guide on the site is written by our named editorial team and checked against official sources — you can read exactly how in our editorial policy. We sell trust and measurement, not hype: no band guarantee, and no accuracy percentage we have not published the method for.
What costs nothing: all four papers, within an allowance. Reading and Listening practice are free every day with full trap-level feedback, and Writing and Speaking are marked against the official criteria free every month. A 7-day trial raises those allowances rather than being the only thing that unlocks them — when it ends they drop back, they do not drop to zero. The one exception is the Band 8 Writing Trainer, whose marking is Pro only and which the trial does not include. Pro is $6.99/month or $29 once for lifetime access. The band-score calculator, the daily Word Coach and the Speaking cue cards are free to use. IELTSbiz is independent and is not affiliated with IDP, the British Council, or Cambridge, who jointly own and deliver the IELTS test.
Frequently asked questions
Is IELTSbiz better than IELTS Liz?
They do different jobs, so the question does not quite hold. IELTS Liz is better at teaching the test — free lessons, video and model answers. IELTSbiz is better at practising and measuring it. Most candidates who use both do best.
Is IELTS Liz free?
Yes, the large majority of its lessons, tips and model answers are free to read and watch. IELTSbiz is also free to start with no card, keeping a free allowance on every paper.
Does IELTS Liz have interactive practice tests?
Not as its focus. The site is built around lessons, tips and model answers rather than an auto-graded test engine, which is the specific gap IELTSbiz fills.
Can I use both?
Yes, and we recommend it. Learn the technique and read model answers on IELTS Liz, then drill unlimited timed practice and track your band per question type here.
