The whole test
IELTS scores you on four separate papers and averages them. Train one and the average barely moves, so train all four here — each marked on its own terms, all of it feeding a single band you can watch change.
Paper I
All 11 question types, on unlimited Cambridge-style passages that are written fresh rather than drawn from a finite library of past papers.
Marked in code against the answer key, then converted through one fixed band table. Nothing in the result depends on who marked it, or on which day they did.
Paper II
Parts 1 to 4, played once — no scrubbing back, no second listen, the same constraint you get in the test centre.
Scored per part and numbered continuously from 1 to 40, the way IELTS numbers them, with the transcript released only once you have finished.
Paper III
Task 1 and Task 2 under one timed sitting, or a single essay whenever you want a second opinion on it.
Assessed on the four official criteria — task response, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy — with an estimated band and the specific sentences that cost you it.
Paper IV
Part 2 cue cards with a real clock on them: one minute to prepare, two minutes to talk, no restarts.
Marked from what you actually said. Record it and your pronunciation and fluency are judged from the audio itself; type it up instead and pronunciation is flagged as estimated. Either way the band is an estimate, not a verdict from a certified examiner.
How it works
Whichever paper you sit, the session has the same three beats — and the third one is where the work actually happens.
Pick a paper — Reading, Listening, Writing or Speaking — or narrow it to one of the 11 reading question types and the band you are aiming for, which sets how hard the passage is written.
Reading passages and listening parts are written fresh, not drawn from a bank of past papers. A full paper runs on a clock you cannot pause, and listening plays once only — there is no second hearing.
Reading is scored against the answer key, question by question, with the trap behind each wrong answer named. Writing and speaking are marked criterion by criterion for an estimated band. Every result is recorded on your dashboard.
What measured means
Two of the four papers are counted. Two are judged. Both are shown to you in full, and the difference between them is not something this page is going to blur.
Paper I — Reading
A reading answer is right or wrong by a fixed rule, and the raw total converts to a band through one table. Give the same answers twice and you get the same band twice — which is the only reason a rise in it means anything. It is progress, not a different marker on a different day.

The passage limits the survey to most vertebrates and admits the insect records are incomplete. “Every species” absolutises a claim the text keeps qualified, so the statement contradicts it.

Matching Headings — 4 of 9 correct, which converts to Band 5.0 while your strongest type sits at 7.5. That gap is the next thing to work on, and it has a name.

Papers III and IV — Writing and Speaking
An essay has no answer key, so there is no fixed rule to apply and nothing here pretends otherwise. Writing and Speaking are marked by AI against the four official criteria, and the band that comes back is an estimate — accurate enough to aim at, never a verdict.

Writing is not handed back as one number. Each criterion carries its own estimated band, so you can see which of the four is holding the other three down.
Read this as an estimate
This band is produced by AI, not by an examiner. It is an estimate — useful for finding what to fix and for watching it move, and not the number a test centre would put on the same essay.
Speaking is marked on its own four criteria, from whichever you give it. Record your answer and pronunciation and fluency are judged from the audio; type it up instead and pronunciation is marked as estimated. Either way the band is an estimate rather than an examiner's verdict.
The four criteria come back with the sentences that cost you the band, so the estimate is auditable even where the number is not exact. You can disagree with it and still see what it saw.

Reading and Listening practice are free, under a daily cap that never falls to zero. Marking for Writing and Speaking runs on the free trial rather than the free tier — worth knowing before you plan around it.
Band 8 Writing Trainer

Marked by the paragraph
A whole-essay score tells you where you stand. This tells you which paragraph is holding you there. You write one, it comes back with an estimated band and the requirement you have not met yet, and the stage stays open until that mark reaches Band 8. All four paragraphs answer the same question, so what you are left with is one coherent essay rather than four fragments.
Written once, not per request
The teaching half is curated and fixed. Every learner reads the same traps, the same blueprint and the same annotated model, because none of it is composed at the moment you open it — so it cannot drift from one learner to the next. Only the marking responds to you.
Any one type
Band 8 is the pass mark on all five writing stages. Anything under it leaves the stage open, and you write it again.
Every type teaches three things
The named ways this particular type gets capped at Band 6, each one tied to the criterion it costs you and the correction that removes it.

What is free here, and what is not
The 7 stages and the marking behind them are Pro, and the free trial does not include them — this is the one paid part of IELTSbiz the trial leaves out. Said plainly so you are not surprised at the wall.

Marking is where the cycle starts rather than where it ends. Every set you sit feeds one record, the record names the type costing you the most, and what you are asked to do next follows from it. Then you sit another set.

No tick table, because a tick table tells you about us by guessing about everybody else. Six plain statements instead. Read them against whatever you are using now and draw your own conclusion.
Reading passages are written for the set you are about to sit rather than drawn from a finite archive of past papers. Practise one question type for a month and you will still be reading something you have not seen before.
Reading and Listening are both graded in code against fixed tables, so neither band is an opinion that can shift between one session and the next. When one of them moves, you moved and not the marker.
A band is kept separately for each of the 11 reading question types. That turns “reading is my problem” into “matching headings is my problem”, which is something you can go and drill.
Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking all sit here, and all four feed a single overall band. Your score is not spread across four separate tools with you doing the averaging by hand.
The Band 8 Writing Trainer takes each Task 2 essay type in turn — what it asks of you, where the marks are usually lost, how the paragraphs are built — and marks one paragraph at a time as you work through it. It is Pro only, and the free trial does not include it.

And what it will not do
Your Writing and Speaking bands are estimates. They are steady enough to show where marks are going and whether the same fault keeps recurring — they are not the mark you will be given on the day.
Record your answer and the audio is assessed for pronunciation and fluency; give it text instead and pronunciation can only be inferred, so it is marked as estimated. Neither path is an examiner listening to you speak.
Version 1 plays through your browser’s speech engine rather than studio recordings. Use it for the question formats and the play-once constraint, not for the voices.
