The piece of technology I couldn't live without is a pair of noise-cancelling headphones that I bought about two years ago. At the time, I was sharing a flat with three other people, and it was almost impossible to study at home. Someone was always cooking, watching television or talking on the phone. A friend recommended these headphones, and although they weren't cheap, I decided to treat myself. They've changed the way I work completely. As soon as I put them on, the background noise just disappears, and I can focus for hours. I also use them on long bus journeys to listen to podcasts, which has done wonders for my English, actually. If I had to sum them up, I'd say they've given me my own quiet space wherever I go.
