Without a doubt. That's essentially what it's designed to do. Good advertising doesn't really sell a product. It sells a feeling, like confidence or belonging, and then suggests the product is the way to get it. Children are particularly vulnerable, because they can't always tell when they're being persuaded. That said, advertising isn't all bad. It also tells us about new products that genuinely improve our lives. The real issue is how aggressively it's targeted, now that companies have so much data about us.
